When an injury or medical crisis happens on an industrial site, the minutes before the ambulance arrives decide the outcome. This 40-hour beginner course prepares you to act as a trained industrial first responder — assessing patients, managing airways and bleeding, and handling the hazards specific to industrial settings. It is built for workers, safety personnel, and site teams who may be first on the scene.

Infection Control, Standard Precautions, and PPE

Standard precautions and the correct sequence for donning and doffing personal protective equipment.

Patient Assessment: Primary Survey (ABCDE)

The ABCDE framework, the AVPU consciousness scale, and a worksheet to guide a consistent assessment.

Airway Management and Ventilation

Manual airway techniques, airway adjuncts, oxygen delivery systems, and bag-valve mask ventilation.

Cardiac Arrest: CPR, AED, and Resuscitation

Recognising cardiac arrest, adult CPR to the ILCOR 2020 standard, and the sequence for using an AED.

Haemorrhage Control and Wound Management

Classifying bleeding by urgency and applying practical techniques to control it and manage wounds.

Traumatic Injuries: Musculoskeletal, Head, Spinal, and Chest

Spinal motion restriction and the recognition and management of chest injuries.

Burns and Blast Injuries

Assessing burns with the Rule of Nines and managing burn injuries on site.

Medical Emergencies

Cardiac chest pain using OPQRST, stroke recognition with FAST, and managing hypoglycaemia.

Industrial-Specific Emergencies

Chemical exposure and decontamination before contact, electric shock, crush syndrome, and heat emergencies.

Patient Packaging, Transport Preparation, and Handoff

Packaging priorities, selecting the right patient carry, and a clear SBAR handover to arriving medics.
